His Name

His Name Does Matter


The following is a brief look at His Name -- a Name that has not been hidden or lost, as some teach.  Remember, the Old English J was originally the Latin and Greek i  -- the letter J did not become a consonant until around the 14th century, it was originally the i with a tail.  Because of the pronunciations between the two letters changing, the J took on a different sound from the i.  Even the i letter change from the Hebrew Y sound (as in yod) to a completely different sound, i as in, in.  To recapture the correct sound in speaking His name we need to restore the i and the J back to what these letters used to sound like, or restore the Hebrew/Aramaic Y letter to its proper sound.  The Y as in YaH, or YeH -- see, it is not difficult.

His Name Above Every Name:

(Php 2:9-10) Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name:  That at the Name of YaHshua every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

How important is this? 

(Rom 10:9-10) That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord YaHshua, and shall believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.  For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. KJV

It is your belief and confession in HIM that makes you righteous, not your righteousness but His -- all coming through and by Him, YaHshua, whom we confess to be the one and only, First Born, by the Resurrection.  Even though we have done nothing to earn any of this, it is our belief and confession, recognizing the one and only Savior, YaHshua, through whom we are given this gift of life.  Our Heavenly Father has seen fit to make us righteous in Him and by Him.  No one, no matter how righteous they may be among men can, or will be granted life eternal without confessing YaHshua as Savior, as the Son of the Living God.  By this confession we are deem righteous by the covering of His Blood.  Do not be deceived our righteousness is as nothing -- anyone who tries to tell you it is all about what is in your heart, how you feel, or see things that counts just happen to be living in a universal deception -- the righteousness of men is nothing, it is all about our confession and acceptance of the One He sent, and He does not come in any other name.

No one can brag about their righteousness, no one, but many do.  Some of Christianity exercise their own righteousness by saying they are not bound by any law or legalism -- a form of "self-righteousness".  Then there are those who say they are bound by the Law (Torah) and go to great lenths to discount the opposite opinion, making everything eternal and never changing.  This last groups struggle and strive to make some kind of restoration for something lost, like the Torah Laws, saying our Lord meant all of Torah.  But our Lord YaHshua, prior to the New Covenant, told the young man and us which of the commandments, with no mention of the civil laws given to Israel in their covenant -- He only mentions those commandments we find in the Ten Words, or Ten Commandments.

 The Hebrew Roots and Sacred Names groups attempt to restore something they think has been lost, but how can you restore what has never been lost, how can you restore that which does not need to be restored?  Of course, they want to restore His Law so they can be righteous enough to gain the Kingdom.  This is why Paul was and is hated by some groups, as he taught righteousness through and by YaHshua.  YaHshua had one teaching for Israel before His going to the Cross and another after, when the New Covenant was sealed by His blood.  Remember, the Old Covenant was sealed by the blood of animals, a continual sealing, by ritual, that had to be done yearly.  To seek restoration of the Old Covenant is to say, in truth, that our Lord's Sacrifice and His blood is still, for them, not enough. There is a reason our Savior is called our Savior.  

The only good argument, almost, I have heard to support Paul as a Torah observer and teacher comes from an example found in the Book of Acts.  Paul, was talked into participating in a Jewish cleansing ceremony and in addition to this, he would pay for seven others as well, according to the custom.  You see, all of the ceremonies and rites conducted at the Temple cost money, and Paul was willing to put up the money to demonstrate that he was still a Jew.  The Temple had become a big money maker for the Priests and others, of course, but still, Paul went along with this plan James, head of the Jerusalem Church, had come up with.  What was James thinking?

Paul follows James advice, stepping into the lions den, so to speak.  James reasoning for such a dangerous course of action was to quiet those claiming Paul was teaching the abandonment of Moses Law, or the Law of Moses -- Torah.  This is all very suspicious, as the believers and brethren should have had no problem with Paul, or so it should have been, so Paul was going to do something to tame fellow believers or the outsider Jew, those continuing in the Old Covenant.  How could this have been a defense of the New Covenant?  It wasn't, this was an attempt by Paul to settle the minds of Jewish brethern, at the request of James. 

Those pointing to Paul's actions say he is doing this and thus proving the Old Covenant rule of Law is still in action.  The problem, of course, is that this was a ceremonial cleansing and not an Old Covenant command, it was a Jewish religious "custom", a practice of self-righteousness, putting your own righteousness on display.  Paul should never have listened to James, of course.  One would almost think James had set Paul up -- as a problem to get rid of.  He talked Paul into putting his life on the line.  In the midst of this self-righteous mobe Paul was eventually identified and they all rose up to take his life.  Sometimes and attitude is enough, on a spiritual level, with brothers attacking brothers, even seeking their spiritual death over physical things.  When YaHshua went to the Cross, for us, the Old Covenant was replaced by the New Covenant, a new and better covenant.  For if fault had not been found with the Old Covenant -- well, what does the Word say?

(Jer 31:31) Behold, the days come, says YaHWeH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

(Heb 8:6) But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on better promises has been given as law.

(Heb 8:7-9) For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. For finding fault with them, he said, "Behold, the days come," says YaHWeH, "that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah; not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; for they didn't continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them," says YaHWeH.

Even though, this was understood, that a New Covenant had been delivered, Paul still wanted to please his brethren of the flesh and the faith, but, as we see, on the last day of the cleansing ceremony someone tipped everyone off that the heretic Paul was in their midst, never mind that he is observing a Jewish custom, they rise up to kill him.  Funny how this worked out, only one more day to go and it would have been done, but before that day would end, someone declares to all present that Paul, the Jewish heretic, is present.  They all rose up to kill him.  Where was James and the rest of the believing, Jewish brethren?  Suddenly Paul is on his own and his life is in the balance.  Sounds a lot like a set up, to me.  The question is, however, does the actions of Paul put the seal of approval on keeping the Church Jewish?  The answer is, of course not! 

What Paul proved, if anything, is that all things are lawful to him and other believers, but not everything is of benefit.  Paul taught this -- he said he became a gentile to have the opportunity to witness YaHshua, and he would be a Jew to convince his flesh and blood brothers that the YaHshua whom they crucified was indeed the Messiah.

(1Co 9:21) To those not having the law I (Paul) became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. 

It should be noted that the words within the parentheses (  ) were additions, most likely taken and inserted by some scribe.  The point here, however, is that Paul acted like a gentile among the gentiles and like a Jew among the Jews.  He was, as he put it later, all things to all men for the sake of preaching YaHshua.

(1Co 9:22) To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.

We actually have a better report that the Old Covenant no longer ruled over the Jewish converts by the actions of Peter, as reported by Paul --

(Gal 2:12) Before certain men came from James, he (Peter) used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.

The "circumcision group", the Jewish believers, were attempting to keep the Torah over believers, keeping the Way of YaHshua, Jewish.  Apparently the Jewish groups, based in Jerusalem, were doing just as they had always done, keeping the Laws of Moses.  At one point they insisted the Gentile believers had to be circumcised, but  this was over ruled by the Holy Spirit and put to rest, as recorded in Acts 15.  We see, however, later, that this ruling at Jerusalem did not settle the question, at least for many of the Jewish believers.
